DraftKings has made a move to acquire live streaming rights of the resumed Bundesliga matches via its mobile application. The service is however only accessible to a handful of gambling legal USA states.
DraftKings, the newly listed USA sportsbook and fantasy sports giant has acquired live streaming betting rights for the Bundesliga, which made a comeback last weekend. The Bundesliga is one of the few big sports tournaments that are springing back to life amid the global Coronavirus pandemic following the K-League South Korean soccer and the UFC less than two weeks ago.
Upon its return, the Bundesliga is now the first of five major European soccer leagues to grace the stadiums once again after a 66-day long COVID-19 break. Given that no other wildly popular sports events are taking place, it’s not a surprise to see the Nasdaq listed sports betting and fantasy sports brand seize the opportunity to engage the members of its platform.
Anyone with a DraftKings Sportsbook membership will be allowed to stream the upcoming Bundesliga games from the sportsbook’s mobile application as long as your account has an account balance of over $0.00. However, this live streaming service is only going to be accessible to players in the USA states where regulated online sports betting is legal. These states include New Jersey, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and the recently okayed Colorado.
Live Streaming Rights Acquired From Sportradar
DraftKings attained Bundesliga live streaming rights from Sportradar, one of the most dominant sports and data content brands across the globe. Sportradar, on the other hand, made a deal with the Bundesliga to acquire the license to their live broadcasts of the league’s matches.
Last year in November, DraftKings penned an agreement with Sportradar to extend its already existing partnership that allowed the later to supply a range of bet simulation content and official sports data. Before that arrangement, Sportadar had extended its partnership with Germany’s DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga) in August for protection against betting-related corruption such as match-fixing.
Sportradar is at the center of this shebang, having been selling international betting rights to the Bundesliga after signing a four-season contact that started in the 2017-18 season and is open for renewal after the current 2020-21 season. The deal, however, excludes Germany, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Austria, and Liechtenstein.
A Host of Markets for Soccer Enthusiasts
With the final game of the Bundesliga is scheduled for June 27, DraftKings is currently offering a vast range of betting markets to soccer fans in the USA, beyond the traditional game-winners and totals. The likes of Correct Score, Offsides, Fouls, Double Chance, and goal/shot based tallies are also available, as well as a robust selection of player props such as Goal Scorer, Scoring Distance, and Assists. All these markets are offered on top of live-streaming capabilities to boost player engagement as they catch the Bundesliga action in real-time.
On top of this live streaming deal, DraftKings will also be rolling out Bundesliga Daily Fantasy Sports contests for the first time to engage players from different parts of the globe.
