New York-listed sports betting juggernaut DraftKings to become the sole sportsbook provider of the Oregon Lottery starting Jan 18th. The DraftKings Sportsbook app will be replacing the Scoreboard sports betting app that has served Oregon for over 2 years.
This January, the Oregon Lottery will officially be migrating from its Scoreboard sportsbook platform to start offering sports betting within state lines via the DraftKings sportsbook. The Beaver State’s Lottery announced the agreement on Wednesday, January 12th, that it would be saying goodbye to the Scoreboard sports betting platform after using it since October 2019.
Now, the same exclusive agreement that was inked with the Scoreboard online sportsbook over two years ago has been made with the DraftKings Sportsbook. The transition to replace the Scoreboard app that sports bettors in Oregon currently use is set to launch on Tuesday, January 18th.

Limited Functionality for Scoreboard Account Holders After DraftKings Migration
Following the migration, Oregon sports bettors who already have an account with the Scoreboard app will be allowed to create a DraftKings Sportsbook account and move their existing funds to the DraftKings app. Further, any open wagers for users with accounts in the Scoreboard app will stay as they are until they are settled.
However, before the switch officially takes place, the Scoreboard sports betting app will continue working seamlessly until the migration begins. When the switch to DraftKings Sportsbook is complete, most of the Scoreboard Sportsbook app’s functionality will no longer be available.
But even then, sports bettors who previously had accounts will be allowed to access their account information, transaction histories, and withdrawal facilities. This limited functionality will last for six months after the DraftKings transition before Scoreboard fully shuts down in Oregon.
Sports bettors in Oregon have already started receiving a letter informing them of the upcoming switch in the sportsbook provider. Based on the Beaver State’s Lottery, players are only required to download the DraftKings Sportsbook application, and the app will then take them through the process of transitioning from Scoreboard. Users who have installed the app will then be notified when the transition officially begins.
Improved User Experience for Oregon Sports Betting Fans
The debut of DraftKings Sportsbook as an exclusive provider of sports betting in the Beaver State on January 18th will mark a culmination of plans that were set in motion on August 26th, 2020. All four members of the Oregon Lottery Commission unanimously voted in favor of the migration to DraftKings Sportsbook from the Scoreboard platform.
Back then, when the switch was still under consideration, Barry Pack, the Director of Oregon Lottery Commission, pointed out that US bettors will feel more at home with the DraftKings platform. In addition, he argued that the SBTech platform that powers the Scoreboard Sportsbook used a design that was more suitable to the European market compared to DraftKings’ homegrown user experience.
With Wednesday’s announcement, Director Pack also shared a few words praising DraftKings’ innovative sports betting technology that sports fans will enjoy. He said:
Quote“We’re excited about the improved experience for our players – including the ability to make same game parlay bets. DraftKings is a premier provider in the US. We see benefits for Lottery too, as the shift to DraftKings means fewer third-party service providers and a simpler financial structure for player accounts.”
As Oregon sports bettors prepare for the transition, it’s worth pointing out that for a while, DraftKings has been readying itself for the possibility of taking over from Scoreboard as the exclusive sportsbook provider. Director Pack first disclosed that it was holding preliminary with DraftKings as a potential sports betting suitor in February 2020. At that time, DraftKings was already serving sports fans in the Beaver State, but under the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) vertical – which to date isn’t exactly legal (or illegal) as there are no laws to define its legitimacy or otherwise.
However, when the idea of becoming the sole sportsbook provider in Oregon was put on the table, DraftKings halted its DFS services. The sports betting and DFS giant made a move to distance itself from an activity that was considered a grey area legally in a bid to score points with the Lottery as a ‘law abiding citizen.’
