Five Celebrities Who See Cryptocurrencies as the Future

The Bitcoin market has undoubtedly caused a stir in financial circles. What was once written off as a ‘fad’ and a ‘loss’ by investment purists, has caused many of them to take a U-turn in their thinking. This is thanks to the currency’s dogged determination to ride to heights of grandeur over the past year. 

It’s not only unknown investment entities that are backing these currencies at the moment either. A long list of influential celebrities has gotten behind the virtual push, as it seems that many of them see a bright economic future with blockchain technology at the fore. 

Here are 5 famous backers for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. 

✓ Elon Musk 

Elon Musk is one of the richest men in the world. His influence in the business space is massive, with a hand in many out-of-the-box innovations, such as commercial space flight (SpaceX), and electric vehicle transportation (Tesla). 

As the owner of the popular PayPal brand, you would have thought that the tech-minded billionaire would have married the ideas of space-age innovation with payment technology long ago. He admits that he was a little late coming to Bitcoin. Nevertheless, he is a firm supporter. Musk commented: 

“I should have bought [bitcoin] eight years ago. I do at this point think bitcoin is a good thing. I am a supporter.” 

PayPal released a statement not long ago about their move into the crypto-wallet space –a sure sign that Mr Musk has acknowledged crypto as the way of the future. 

✓ Lionel Messi 

The Argentinian sporting superstar was the global brand ambassador for Sirin Labs, producers of blockchain based-smartphones and other technology tied to the crypto-world.  

To top that off, he and other Barcelona teammates became poster boys for the blockchain start-up, Chilliz in 2020. 

Messi is considered one of the best football players of modern history, if not the best. He has been an ambassador behind many prominent brands but never represents a concept he does not believe in. 

✓ Gene Simmons 

Rock ‘n Roll Legend and KISS frontman, Gene Simmons, is a public fan of cryptocurrency. Having expressed that he was first interested in the concept with the rise of Bitcoin in 2017. He has since moved to invest in Dogecoin and XRP instead, both of which have seen great bull runs of late. 

Simmons’ very public admission of his crypto following was released on his Twitter account earlier this month, where he said: 

‘’Not recommending any of these to anyone. But yes, I also bought Dogecoin, XRP, and others. Make of it what you will.’’ 

With a massive following on the social media platform and a great reputation in the music realm, you can believe that he would only Tweet something he really believes in and supports. 

✓ Mr Beast 

Mr Beast is a prominent YouTuber who is well known for giving money away. His videos exude a feel-good atmosphere. As such, he is one of the most respected celebrities on the platform. 

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, overall, has certainly managed to catch his attention after he tweeted to his 10 million follower base, asking them if they held any cryptocurrencies. His tweet read: 

‘’Do you hold any Bitcoin or other crypto? Retweet so we can get a larger sample size! I’m curious’’ 

He ran a poll alongside the statement, gaining insights from over 640,000 of his followers. This set the crypto community ablaze. Bitcoin seems to have managed to capture the Beast. 

✓ Russell Okung 

Russel Okung is an offensive lineman for the Carolina Panthers American Football team. He took to Twitter in December 2020, saying: 

‘’Pay me in Bitcoin’’ 

He followed up his statement earlier this week with the words: 

‘’Paid in Bitcoin’’ 

The sportsman announced that he was the first NFL player to be paid in Bitcoin, after half his salary would be converted to the cryptocurrency and stored in an off-the-web, cold storage wallet, for security sake.  

It should be clarified that the NFL team insisted that they would pay him in US-Dollars and that ‘Strike’ (a crypto exchange company) would set about converting his cash to crypto in an automated fashion. 

Despite the fact that his tweets may seem like click bate, it does suggest that yet another prominent celebrity and influencer has been won over by decentralised digital currency. So much so, that he will be thrusting millions of dollars into this space each year. 

 Crypto is Hard to Ignore 

In a world where digital transactions are becoming an everyday business, it’s hard to turn a blind eye to the decentralised markets. It is undeniable that they seem to be plotting the course for the future of finance through innovations such as the blockchain.
