GambleAware has committed to spending millions while backing 10 organisations to increase recovery from gambling-related harm on a long-term scale.
The online gambling industry focuses on providing playing experiences that entertain punters. Along with that is a commitment to ensuring safer gambling is always the best way to play.
GambleAware is one of the world's largest responsible gambling organisations and works to create a safer industry for all. After an intense selection process, the organisation is putting its money where its mouth is by dishing out millions to worthy programmes.
GambleAware Aftercare Funding Programme
The GambleAware AFP was established in 2022 and has received backing to the tune of at least £2 million. The aim of the funding programme is to help those who are recovering from gambling harm and ensure that the effects are long-term.
It's for this reason that the AFP is handing out a total of £2 million to 10 different organisations across Great Britain. The selected foundations and programmes will work to improve the mental health and well-being of those in their care. They will also focus on practical skills such as financial responsibility, employment skills, and raising self-confidence.
Two levels of funding were made available to those who applied. The first level is for small or new organisations and is worth £150,000. Larger and more established programmes received up to £350,000, as they are believed to make a bigger impact.
Ipsos will be evaluating and reporting on the outcome of the AFP soon in the hopes that more funding will be available in the near future.
Long-Term Recovery is Key
Anna Hargrave, GambleAware Chief Commissioning Officer, commented on the Aftercare Funding Programme and the work it does in the industry, saying:
QuoteEnabling people to access treatment and support to reduce or stop their gambling is essential. But there is less known about how to ensure this recovery can be sustained over the long term. This is why our Aftercare Funding Programme was set up to fund projects which support recovery for people to help them rebuild their lives.
QuoteThese ten organisations were chosen to receive funding because of their innovative approaches, as well as their abilities to reach specific communities. We look forward to seeing how the projects develop.
The organisations that received funding include Acta Community Theatre, Addiction Recovery Agency, Recovery4all, Beacon Counselling Trust, Citizens Advice Brighton & Hove, Citizen Advice Wirral, Cyrenians, Epic Restart Foundation, GamCare and Reframe, Steps To Work and Veterans Aid.
This list may expand in the future, and GambleAware aims to increase its reach and the chance to help even more players receive the help they need.
