The UK Gambling Commission has announced the official date for nation-wide enforcement of GAMSTOP compliance. All licenced operators will be required to integrate with the self-exclusion program as a licence stipulation.
In a press release earlier today the UK Gambling Commission announced that it will be enforcing GAMSTOP compliance for all licenced operators.
The announcement will make it a licencing stipulation for all UK gambling operators to integrate with the GAMSTOP self-exclusion program by 31 March 2020.
The aim of this decision is to make it easier for at-risk players to self-exclude from more than 200 operators in a single location, rather than having to make multiple requests.
Player Protection Central To 2020
The Gambling Commission in partnership with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) met with UK banks and online casino operators in 2019 to set plans in motion to safeguard players in 2020.
Neil McArthur of the Gambling Commission said:
“We welcome the fact that GAMSTOP has got to this stage in their development and encourage them to continue to improve their offer, particularly in relation to preventing those who have self-excluded being targeted by direct marketing.”
He also added that:
“Operators must do everything they can to minimise the risk of gambling-related harm. That is why we expect the industry to create safe products, know their customers, understand what they can afford to gamble with and identify when they are experiencing harm and step in.”
The enforcement of GAMSTOP compliance is an extension of the Commission’s promise to support and enforce the National Strategy for Reducing Gambling Harms.
