GamCare Create Online Safe Space for Women Affected by Gambling Harms

New Dedicated Chatroom for Women

September will see the launch of the organisation's first-ever group chatroom exclusively for women who are suffering under the strains of gambling harms.

GamCare’s announcement of the initiative explained the need for these exclusive rooms:

“Women can be disproportionately negatively impacted by gambling-related harms, which include financial, relationship and mental health issues. GamCare is running this session for any women [or those who identify as female] who are affected by gambling, whether they are the gambler, or a family member or friend.”

This thoughtful new outreach is part of GamCare’s Women’s Programme which aims to create relationships with public and third sector organisations that assist and educate women on the realities of dealing with gambling addiction, understanding the stresses this creates and providing tools and support to thrive despite the challenges it presents.

The inaugural female support chatroom session will run from 7pm – 8pm, this coming Saturday, September 12th. To join the conversation simply visit GamCare’s website and register for the Chatroom.

Great Resource for All

While this new initiative focuses on the niche needs and support of women GamCare already run daily support chatrooms where everyone is welcome to share and receive encouragement.

GamCare describes the supportive environment of their chatrooms as follows:

“Our Chatroom is a safe and supportive environment. Some sessions might be fairly busy and intense; others will be quieter and more relaxed. Each session is moderated by one of our Advisers, who will welcome you to the chat and be on hand to guide everyone or answer questions if needed.”

Chatrooms are available at the following times:

• General Chatroom: Every day at 1pm and 8pm.
• Chatroom for family and friends: Thursdays at 9:30pm.
• Peer Support Chatroom: Run by Peer Aid, Wednesdays and Fridays 10am
