MGA Approves Cash Bingo for Care and Nursing Homes

It is widely acknowledged that Bingo is a favourite pastime for senior citizens around the world. The hobby is more a form of entertainment than a gambling activity but allows for a friendly competitive environment with the chance of being a winner.

The MGA has made provision for Nursing Homes and Frailty Care Centres to run this type of entertainment without the need to acquire permits from the regulator for each individual game. Nursing Homes will be allowed to host in-house Bingo games, weekly or even daily, so long as the games meet the MGA’s low-risk definition.

 Basic Game Plan

As with all new legislation, there are some provisional terms set in place for the governance of this practice to ensure that it remains a low-risk game. These laws include:

• The low-risk game must be organised by the Nursing Home.
•  The low-risk game may consist solely of a bingo-type game.
• The value of each stake may not exceed €1.
• The value of the prize thereof will not exceed €100.
• The low-risk game shall only be made available to elderly persons who are living at, or in any way benefiting from or making use of services offered by the care and nursing home.
