The Norwegian Gaming and Foundation Authority launched Responsible Gambling ad campaign where problem gamblers are most likely to see it – a marketplace website used to make quick money to feed their habit or cover debts.
The Norwegian Gaming and Foundation Authority (Lotteri-og stiftelsestilsynet) has taken action in the ongoing balance between creating a safe and regulated gambling environment that allows free participation in the hobby for both individuals and providers – while ensuring that those who are prone to addictive behaviours get the support and protection they deserve.
Fantastic New Responsible Gambling Campaign
The Gaming Authority takes its research seriously having already released articles dealing with such hot button topics as to how gambling debt impacts the family and its financial future.
Now they have used a recent study showing that more than 30,000 Norwegians fall into the problem gambling umbrella with nearly 90,000 others at risk of following in their footsteps as the drive behind their Responsible Gambling Campaign.
Gunn Merete Paulsen, Director of the Gaming Authority, said:
“If you add everyone around the player who is also affected by the gambling addiction, there are a lot of people; we want to show how brutal and painful gambling addiction is, but also how people can get the best help,”
In particular, the campaign goes to great lengths to encourage gamblers to play at local casinos by showcasing the controls in place to protect Norwegian players.
Put People First, Not Your Profit
One of the key elements of the Responsible Gambling Campaign is that Norsk Tipping casinos are required to warn players of risky behaviour and recommend lowering their spend – the kind of timely advice that can save a family from long term harm and stress.
Paulsen added that knowledge is the best tool to combat predatory foreign operator advertising that cares only for profit not for the person, saying:
“… it is important for us to reach out with the knowledge that the foreign gambling companies are in fact not allowed to offer and market gambling in Norway.”
In a surprisingly clever move, the main thrust of campaign will be on a Norwegian marketplace website called FINN, a local version of sites like Gumtree and eBay. The reasoning being that they have found problem gamblers use the site to make quick money to fund or cover their gambling habit.
By putting the ad in front of players facing the reality of their situation they hope to give them the necessary tools to turn their situation around for the good of themselves and their loved ones.
