Genting Group is preparing for the grand entry of its Resorts World Las Vegas casino and hotel property on June 24th into the Vegas Strip. The Hilton-managed hotel rooms in the expansive complex are open for bookings as the launch date edges closer.
On Monday, April 19th, Malaysia-based Genting Group announced that its Resorts World Las Vegas complex would be open for business starting June 24th. The $4.3 billion project has taken over seven years of planning and construction to become one of the largest casino complexes in Sin City. With such a massive price tag, it’s also the most expensive casino and resort property in the Vegas Strip.
Groundbreaking took place in May 2015, but actual construction started a little over two years later, towards the end of 2017. With its recent completion, Resorts World Last Vegas is now the first casino resort in the Vegas Strip to be built from start to finish in the last decade. The last casino constructed in the Strip was The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which launched its operations on December 15th, 2010. Owned by the Blackstone Group, the Cosmopolitan project cost a whopping $3.9 billion. It became the most expensive development in the Las Vegas Strip at that time before sliding to the second position after RWLV, the new kid on the block.
Scott Sibella, the president of Resorts World Las Vegas, released a statement after the official announcement of the launch date, saying:
Quote“After years of planning and constructing this monumental property with some of the most innovative partners in the industry, Resorts World Las Vegas will redefine the hospitality standard in Las Vegas with unmatched dining and entertainment, more variety of hotel accommodations than anywhere else on the Strip, and the city’s most progressive technology.
We are filled with gratitude and excitement as we approach our opening this June and hope to play a role in Las Vegas’ rebound after what has been an incredibly challenging year for the destination and greater hospitality industry.”
Malaysia's Genting Group Continues to Cement its Casino Presence in the US
Resorts World Las Vegas boasts of having the best of the best amenities in the world of hospitality and entertainment. One of the finest attractions in Genting Groups’ new iconic property is a next-generation casino floor spanning 117,000 square feet. It features thousands of slot machine cabinets, table games, an exclusive poker room, high-stakes gambling areas, and a sportsbook. The gaming arena will be part of Genting Reward,s where guests coming to the venue can collect redeemable loyalty points from dining, shopping, and gambling.
This new property marks an expansion of Genting’s footprint in the USA, after the Resorts World Casino New York City, but the journey hasn’t been a smooth sail. Besides Coronavirus delays, the RWLV has also been met with legal storms along the way. The Wynn Resorts, for instance, took Genting to court, accusing Genting of copying the design of the neighboring Wynn/Encore in a bid to mislead victors into thinking that the two were affiliated. Genting, in turn, had to redesign the RWLV structure, and this led to more delays.
The section that Resorts World Las Vegas occupies in the Las Vegas Strip was the former venue of Stardust Resort and Casino, which had been a shining star in the region for nearly 5 decades. Stardust eventually shut its doors in 2006 and was demolished by Boyd Gaming, the then owner, in favor of a new project, the Echelon Palace. Poor economic conditions led Boyd to abandon the new construction in 2008, and Genting Group swooped in to buy the site and partially erect structures for $350 million.
Reservations are Already Open for the Hotel Rooms in RWLV
Hilton, the American multinational hospitality company, has also scored big with Resorts World Las Vegas after winning its largest multi-million deal yet with three of its premium brands. Hilton will offer 3,500 luxury suites and guest rooms at the RWLV through its flagship brand Hilton Hotel & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, and its other luxury collection brand, the Crockfords Las Vegas LXR Hotels and Resorts.
Additionally, the Resorts World Las Vegas has been integrated into the Hilton Honors, the award-winning loyalty program for guests visiting any of the 18 iconic brands under Hilton’s umbrella. Some of the hotel rooms at RWLV are currently open for reservations in readiness for the grand opening date.
