Leading New York-based investment firm VanEcks, key to the advancement of Bitcoin and Ethereum spot exchange-traded funds (ETF), filed a proposal for a Solana ETF with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on 27 June 2024.

Crypto and digital asset investment firm 21Shares soon followed suit, submitting its regulatory approval request at the beginning of July 2024.

Both filings listed the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) as the platform for their SOL ETFs should they receive approval. This will mean a large-scale update of the CBOE framework as it currently does not make provision for any form of cryptocurrency or virtual asset such as NFTs.

The announcement of the filings had a positive impact on the value of $SOL, with the token increasing in value by 16% within a few hours.
