Svenska Spel Continue To Support Sweden’s Olympic Gold Medal Hopes

2019 saw Svenska Spel sign on as the new main sponsor for the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK). Despite the debilitating impact of the global health crisis on most sporting events and leagues, Svenska Spel has stood tall as a supporter of sports as an outreach and support medium for at-risk youth.

Most notably 2020 saw the early disbursement of the promised SEK 7.3 million (€688,000) in annual funding, allowing various groups to maintain their venues and cover staff payroll, as well as releasing an additional SEK 37 million (€3.5 million) in funding to the National Sports Federation.

With the unexpected advent of the recent health crisis all major sporting events ground to a sudden halt, and this included the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Rather than withdraw from their 7-year SEK 100 million Olympic sponsorship agreement Svenska Spel doubled down on their commitment by becoming actively involved with the athletes themselves.

President and CEO, Svenska Spel, Patrik Hofbauer said:

“Our collaboration with SOK includes a commitment to the so-called Top and Talent program and to 10 individual athletes and a team that together form Team Svenska Spel. It is highly uncommon for us at Svenska Spel to associate individual athletes with us, but I must say that it is very fun that we do it now.”

With the Olympic Committee announcing that the Tokyo Games will begin July 23, 2021, and run up until August 8th these athletes will need all the support they can get over the next year to ensure they are both physically and emotionally prepared when their time comes.
