#TeamTrees Won’t Gamble On The Future Of The Planet

The advent of the internet changed the world forever – whether you consider that change good or bad however is down to personal experience. One of the greatest phenomenon’s has been the rise of social media influencers.

Now scoff if you like but having millions of people watch you play Minecraft, Fortnite or even online slots – yes there are slots streamers – has become a viable business opportunity in the age we live in.

One of these YouTube sensations, Jimmy Donaldson, otherwise known online as MrBeast, has decided to put his enormous following, and the crazy money he has made online, to work for the good of the planet by planting 20 million trees by 2020!

We Only Have One Earth

MrBeast is well known online for doing crazy high-value videos. He has donated $100,000 to random streamers on Twitch as well as needy families, he gave away a boat in a last-to-take-their-hand-off challenge, and he even gave random strangers Uber rides in a tank!

To say he is no stranger to the spectacle is an understatement, yet this is different. Rather than making a quick video for this more than 25 million followers this is a project that seems to have put MrBeast on the back burner and brought Jimmy Donaldson to the fore, a man with a vision to do some good.

In his video announcing this massive endeavour of planting 20 million trees by 2020 he simply ended with a heartfelt and engaging statement:

“We only have one Earth, and it’s important we take care of it.”

No hype, no spectacle just a sobering fact about our relationship with, and the responsibility for, the world we inhabit.

Global Reach of #TeamTrees

Realising he had the drive and the passion but not the infrastructure to accomplish his object Donaldson partnered with Arbor Day Foundation to ensure that all funds raised go to a foundation able to execute his vision.

This led to the creation of the hashtag #teamtrees to drive interest and traffic to TeamTrees.org, all funds are tracked here with each $1 donated allowing the Arbor Day Foundation to plant one tree.

Naturally, this massive initiative caught the attention of fellow YouTubers who have donating time, money and airtime on their respective channels to help #TeamTrees hit it’s 20 Million Trees goal.

The grand scope #TeamTrees even caught the attention of billionaire philanthropist and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, who donated $1 million to the cause.

So Close To 20 Million

This initiative has been a real showcase for the power and scope of influence that this new generation for celebrities wields. Donaldson posted his “Planting 20,000,000 Trees, My Biggest Project Ever!” video to YouTube on the October 25th, a mere 12 days ago and the video already has over 32 million views with TeamTrees.org showing nearly $13 million in donations!

That averages out to more than $1,000,000 in donations per day, or rather 1 million trees pledged per day! An astounding achievement for what started as a single YouTube video less than 2 weeks ago!
