YGAM Impact Report Shows Fantastic Potential for 2023

The UK Gambling Commission has been one of the industry's most ardent supporters of responsible gambling programs – especially those aimed at educating and protecting the youth.

The Young Gamers & Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) leads the charge in ensuring that British youth are armed with the tools and resources they need to safeguard themselves against gambling harms.

 Millions To Be Reached by YGAM Initiatives

A recent report by the charity revealed that their evidence-based education programmes had been attended by 4,819 delegates comprising educators and youth workers, health practitioners, social workers, mental health specialists, and even community leaders.

Dr Jane Rigbye, Chief Executive Officer of Ygam, said:

Our focus was to consolidate and build on the impact of our existing work, whilst looking to the future through the development of a new strategy to guide us from 2023.”

According to feedback collected from attendees post the training sessions, they are incredibly impactful:

1. 96% of attendees feel confident talking about gambling and gaming, compared to 33.3% before the sessions.
2. 98.1% feel empowered to support those concerned about gambling or gaming harms, compared to 25.8% before.
3. 98.5% believe they are equipped to recognise signs of gambling and gaming harm, compared to 31.5% before.

Through training these individuals, the program is expected to reach nearly 2 million at-risk individuals throughout England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

 Reaching Beyond the Classroom

While the importance of educators is undeniable, an even more vital sphere of influence is social groups and influencers. Football teams and their players are significant influences in every British household. To this end, YGAM has embarked on a partnership campaign with twelve professional football clubs.

These clubs have undergone the same training on gambling and gambling harms which have seen more than 330 players become educated on the topic. This education will be a boon to them personally and assist them in helping those who look up to them as their role models.
