The Weirdest Las Vegas and Nevada Laws That Will Make You Scratch Your Head
By GamblersPick Apr 22, 2020Las Vegas and the state of Nevada have many laws to protect the residents and tourists. But some laws are very odd and funny! Here are the bizarre laws to know.In 2019, Nevada adopted over 300 new laws! While most of these are practical and needed, there are many laws that are just plain weird.
Since so many tourists visit Las Vegas every year, the state has many laws to protect tourists and the local business owners. But as you prepare to travel, you'll soon find out that some of these laws are more practical than others!
Keep reading to discover the top three weirdest laws to know before you visit Sin City.
Absolutely No Hula-Hooping
One of the top weird laws in Nevada deals directly with Fremont Street. This popular tourist attraction is full of live entertainment, but one form of entertainment you won't find is hula-hooping!
The local ordinances prohibit hula hoops larger than four feet in diameter in this area. While it might seem silly, the ordinance is there for a reason. If every entertainer walked around with a large hula hoop around their body, this crowded street would become impossible to walk down.
So before you pack your hula hoop into your carry-on luggage, consider a different mode of entertainment.
Don't Feed the Pigeons
This weird Las Vegas law is pretty new and possibly long-overdue. In 2017, the local government passed a law that made pigeon feeding illegal in Las Vegas and surrounding towns.
When people feed pigeons, it only attracts more pigeons to the area — and with those pigeons, comes pigeon poop. All that pigeon poop was becoming a nightmare for business owners to clean up and protect their buildings from. To combat the large pigeon population, the government decided to cut off their main food supply.
Before you share your lunch with the local birds, you should also know that breaking this law can come with a $1,000 fine or six months in jail!
No Pawning Dentures
Finishing our list of weird Nevada laws is the law stating that you can't pawn your dentures.
Walk into any casino and you'll find a rather large population of seniors. And apparently, when these seniors found themselves out of money for the Penny Slots, they resorted to pawning their dentures. Since a pawn shop isn't the ideal place to buy a pair of dentures, a law was passed prohibiting this act.
If you do have some spare dentures to offload, you may want to consider an online selling venture. The Las Vegas Craigslist is full of interesting and rare finds.
Keep These Laws in Mind During Your Next Las Vegas Trip
While these laws may seem silly, when you travel, you must abide by the law of the land. The last thing you want to do is have your dream vacation ruined over a little hula-hooping or pigeon feeding. That's why it's always best to do your research before traveling to a new city.
