The brand is one of the most successful crypto casinos in the world and is owned by two young Australian entrepreneurs, Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani. The cryptocurrency-first venture has proven so successful that co-founder Ed Craven was voted one of Australia’s youngest self-made billionaires at 27.
Stake Scoops Up Drake
One of their big wins was landing renowned Canadian musician Drake as a brand ambassador. Drake is a known gambling stan who is said to have staked approximately $1 billion worth of crypto on a slew of sports bets and games of chance.
At the time, Drake said:
Quote"It was inevitable. Drake and Stake have come together. "
Craven later clarified the "inevitability" of the arrangement as exceeding the alliteration of their names by confirming that the performer had been an "active member" of the site "for a few months".
Signing with Stake casino in 2022 was a match made in heaven as it saw the rapper able to monetise his favourite pastime while bringing a lot of mainstream attention to the online casino.
New York Court Drama
Despite his love of online gambling, Drake could regret his decision, given that his involvement with the brand could make him a key witness in the upcoming $500 million lawsuit.
While Craven and Tehrani have been living the highlife, their former business partner, Christopher Freeman, has been strategising how to reclaim his lost fortune. The Florida-based businessman claims the Australia duo used "bullying and unlawful tactics" to oust him from Primedice, the business that would become the $1 billion entity we know as Stake.
Freeman claims the decision to pivot to crypto, a cornerstone of the site’s success, was his doing. The filing seeks a full audit of Stake assets which he will use as the basis for a suit to redress the issue of lost wealth.
