Is Drake a Cursed Online Gambler?
By Shane Addinall Jan 22, 2024 EntertainmentThe famous musician might be good at making music but not so much when it comes to betting. Another fighter bites the dust after Drake’s wager, leaving many believing the curse just might be real. When it comes to online gambling, there’s no limit to the sports and topics you can wager on. It’s an exciting form of entertainment enjoyed by everyday people and even celebrities.
The famous rapper Drake falls among the betting enthusiasts who like to place big wagers on different sporting events.
Drake Loses Another One
Betting online is not just something for regular people; it is also an activity famous musicians and actors enjoy. Drake, a famous rapper and hip-hop star, falls among the popular figures who enjoy their fair share of gaming.
Just six months after Drake wagered $500,000 on Israel Adesanya knocking out Sean Strickland, he returned with an even bigger bet on the former middleweight champion for the UFC 297.
During the Saturday night main event, the rapper wagered a massive $700,000 on Strickland beating Dricus du Plessis. He placed his bet at Stake.com. With this bet, Drake didn’t try to predict a finish time but instead chose to wager on Strickland winning the fight.
If Drake’s wager were a win, he’d have taken home an impressive $1.397 million. The odds were in his favour, considering Strickland was the favourite with a -112 odds. With these odds, it would’ve taken a $112 wager to earn back $100 if the title was won successfully.
Drake posted on Instagram that he would be attending the UFC297, which took place in his hometown, Toronto. As far as stars and betting go, Drake is among the biggest UFC fans and tends to wager on them before the matches.
Unfortunately, Drake tends to miss the mark more than he gets a win. And with this, he’s earned a reputation as being a curse for any fighters or teams he wagers on. Among the many who have fallen victim to the Drake ‘curse’ are Adesanya, Connor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Jorge Masvidal.
If you believe in the curse, it’s safe to say that Strickland had the cards stacked against him before the fight even started.
The Drake Curse
The match ended in favour of Dricus du Plessis, who has now been crowned the UFC middleweight champion after a split decision over Strickland. The fighter had 5 hard rounds, which was also the first of his MMA career.
Fans and fighters were having a field day on X (Twitter) with the most recent loss from the famous rapper. Many poking fun or jesting that the Drake Curse is real.
This is due to the fact that Drake is not known to have the best luck when it comes to online wagering. This is not the first time Drake has placed a big wager and ended up losing.
Over on X, UFC welterweight, Belak Muhammad, had nothing much to say other than “Drake does it again”. Joe ‘Skeletor’ Giannetti said Drake has to stop betting on MMA in response to a tweet claiming the Drake curse is real. And Jamahal Hill just had a couple of choice words to express his frustration.
If there’s one thing we’re certain of, it’s that fighters and sports teams should hope to stay off Drake’s betting card. It doesn’t get much worse than having bad luck again and again while the whole world watches and Drake is at the centre of everyone’s attention.
