Warner Media Shoots for A Hole-in-One with Blocklete Games
By Shane Addinall Sep 25, 2020 EntertainmentWarner Media has announced their first foray into the world of Blockchain gaming with an innovative online golfing game, Blocklete Games. Level your character, compete in cash tournaments and even sell your player for cryptocurrency all in one game.Warner Media have their fingers in a lot of pies when it comes to entertainment. They are actively pursuing content creation and technology in the film industry, streaming services, video game development and in sports broadcasting.
Turner Sports is their division that not only looks after their sports broadcast channels, namely TBS, TNT, AT&T SportsNet and TruTV, but also their digital sports media through sites like NCAA.com, NBA.com, PGATour.com and PGA.com.
It is off the back of this love for new technology and a strong understanding their viewers love of sports that Warner Media announced that they have stepped into the blockchain gaming arena with their innovative new online golfing product, Blocklete Games.
What is a Blocklete?
The name of their new blockchain-based sports game is a clever mashup of the “Blockchain” and “athlete”. While it may sound odd to consider your avatar for an online game an athlete it is exactly that distinction that makes Blocklete Games such a unique proposition.
In many games you sign, create an avatar, give it a funny name and then enjoy the game. When you’re done playing you close the account and walk away, with the progress your character made nothing more than a badge of personal pride. But not with Blocklete.
Much the recent rise of Blockchain-based collectible trading cards, your Blocklete will have real-world value. And one that is yours to extract through the websites built-in marketplace.
I Can Profit from My Blocklete?
Simply put, yes you can.
When you begin playing Blocklete you have the option of buying a new character. This character will have one of four starting ranks, each which has its own set of benefits.
These character ranks are:
- Novice – constitutes 55% of golfers released, with ability points of 20-400
- Pro – constitutes 28% of golfers released, with ability points of 450-525
- Elite – constitutes 15% of golfers released, with ability points of 550-750
- Legend – constitutes 3% of golfers released, with ability points of 850-1000
What Blocklete Games offers is the chance to take the player of your choosing and level them up through playing various golfing challenges. These players are then yours to enter into real money tournaments with some early marketing material showing prize pools of up to $20,000!
Playing for prizes is not everyone’s cup of tea which is why like any skilled sports team manager you can monetise the players you control directly.
Since all tournaments are skill-based you will only ever compete against players in your bracket. This means there will be a market for players wanting Blocklete’s who have been levelled up. Blocklete Games offers an inhouse marketplace where these players can be bought and sold for Ethereum.
Pricing is also up to the owner, with Blocklete Games not placing any restrictions or transaction caps. If you create a championship level Blocklete you deserve to reap the rewards.
How Challenges and Tournaments Work
Blocklete Games makes it simple to play their ongoing challenges to skill up your Blocklete or jump into a cash tournament. Simply click ‘play’ on your Blocklete and you will find the following game types available:
- Skill-Based Challenges - win medals to power up your golfer’s various skills and abilities
- Direct Challenges – these games are all about outplaying your friends for bragging rights
- Tournaments – where are the levelling up and practice matches with friends can see you winning cash prizes
The games themselves use a simple energy mechanic. Each Blocklete begins a round with 100 energy and each stroke costs you energy. The more strokes you play the harder it becomes to execute that perfect shot, and when you’re out of energy you will need to wait for it to refill before continuing on… meanwhile, your partners will have played through.
Winning a game of Blocklete golf, like its real-world equivalent, comes down to whether you outplayed your opponents or not.
