Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park Gets a Helping Hand From Pragmatic Play
By Shane Addinall Aug 27, 2022 IndustryPragmatic Play helps a conservation program with much-needed improvements as the Gibraltar organisation works toward saving endangered species.Leading content provider, Pragmatic Play, channelled profits toward a good cause. The donation to Gibraltar’s only wildlife sanctuary aids in the maintenance and improvement of the facility. Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park (AWCP) is home to several exotic species and those native to the region.
Pragmatic Play extended a £6,850 donation to support renovations and improvements to the external areas and turtle ponds. As the only haven for unwanted exotic pets in the region, AWCP commits to raising awareness of endangered species and educating the community on these matters.
The donation helps the team of conservationists further their commitment to nature and keeping the animals safe.
Helping the Turtles
Pragmatic Play enables AWCP to materialise renovations in the wildlife park that improve the lives of the animals. The animal park plays an integral role in keeping exotic and endangered breeds safe, and the donation allows for structural improvements at the facility. The company’s CEO, Julian Jarvis, stated that the AWCP can count on continuous support from Pragmatic Play. Jarvis said:
“As the only wildlife park in Gibraltar, the AWCP fulfils a crucial part in the protection of rare animal species, and we’re extremely proud to be able to support the restructuring of its outdoor spaces and turtle ponds.”
AWCP houses many exotic species, both indigenous and from abroad, and earmarked Pragmatic Play’s donation for the new turtle exhibition. Authorities in Gibraltar surrendered some animals after customs confiscated the illegal pets from their owners.
The new turtle exhibition houses North American breeds and the refurbishing ensure that the turtles have running, filtered water as required for their health. Along with the turtle pools, they will also renovate outdoor spaces. Jarvis explained that the spacious new pools will house up to four turtle species in prominent areas of the park.
Aid, Protect, Educate
Nestled in the Alameda Botanical Garden, the conservation organisation also takes in unwanted exotic pets. A vital responsibility of the organisation is the conservation of threatened species and AWCP often takes part in international conservation projects to protect species in the wild.
Species found at the park include cotton-top tamarins, different breeds of macaques, lemurs, and exotic bird breeds, to mention only a few. Through education, the AWCP hopes to inform people about endangered species and the best ways to protect wild animals.
The park houses a few tropical tortoise species and the North American turtle, the common snapping turtle, map turtles, and yellow-bellied sliders. Some of these breeds can live longer than most humans to become 70 years old or more.
AWCP further aids nature conservation through selected captive breeding programmes, essential for the conservation of rare and endangered species.
