Battle of Betway Drives Major October CS:GO Tournament
By Shane Addinall Oct 16, 2021 IndustryBetway will host a historical Counter Strike: Global Offensive tournament this October, as five of their partner teams compete for the top title of the Battle of Betway. The online sports betting operator, Betway, announces its most impressive CS:GO tournament yet. Battle of Betway is a one-day-only event on 20 October, 6 days ahead of the PGL Major in Stockholm. The teams will start off with a round-robin group stage.
Adam Savinson, from Betway eSports, commented:
“Battle of Betway is our most ambitious CS:GO sponsorship activation to date; bringing together our teams from around the world to compete against each other in an epic Betway tournament.”
The tournament will host global teams with NIP, G2 and BIG from Europe, and FURIA, and MIBR representing Brazil. Betway has strengthened its eSports presence in the past year by partnering with multiple organisations in the industry.
Counter Strike and eSports
If you are not familiar with the term, eSports is a category of online entertainment where gamers play popular fantasy games or virtual sports, and gamblers wager on who will win. Basically, it's video games that are played in a highly organised and competitive environment. Team or multiplayer online battle arena games, and first-person shooter games are among the popular choices in this booming sport.
Counter Strike first made its appearance as a hugely successful computer game, back when people thought the world would end in the year 2000. It has since developed from one of the greatest LAN gatherings to one of the most popular eSport segments. The Global Offensive version of the game is at the top of sportsbook lists. The largest tournament for CS:GO is the PGL Major and this year Stockholm, Sweden, will host it.
Savinson shared about the upcoming tournament:
“Occurring just before the long-awaited Stockholm Major, this is the last opportunity for every CS:GO fan to see their favourite teams face off before battling for the top prize of the year.”
The five teams to take part in Betway’s Battle are all professional eSports organisations in partnership with the betting operator. Ninjas in Pyjamas (a professional eSports organisation from Sweden), BIG (Berlin International Gaming), FURIA (from Brazil), MIB (Made in Brazil) and G2 (Formerly known as Gamers2) will battle it out.
How it Works
With Betways, punters can bet in three different ways. You can wager on the Match Result, the Handicap, or the Map Winner. The most straightforward way is the Match result, as you only need to pick a side.
If a game offers you the chance to bet on the handicap, it’s usually because one team is weaker and receives an advantage to create a more equal level of competition. Placing a wager on the Map winner is like that of a Match result bet, except you bet on which team will win a specific map, rather than the entire match or tournament.
Battle of Betway will have two rounds, with round 1 being a group stage and round 2 being the final playoffs. The group stage takes a round-robin format and all matches are Best of 1, where all teams play each other once.
The top three teams will advance to the Playoffs, where they will face a Single-Elimination gauntlet and all matches are Bo1.
Sharp Shooting
Betway definitely made a strategic move when they invested more effort in the eSports industry. COVID-19 has shut down many events over the past two years, but eSport is online, making it a lockdown resistant betting market.
Battle of Betway will be an outstanding event and loyal fans of CS:GO will love to know that Anders and Semmler are the commentators this year.
