Esports Arena Takes Place of Pride in Dnipro Hotel Revamp
By Shane Addinall Aug 07, 2020 IndustryKyiv is set to host a world-class Esports Arena once the extensive Dnipro Hotel revamp is complete in the near future.Purchased by a secret buyer on 15 July for $41,000,000, the Dnipro Hotel was one of the state-owned objects that was put up for privatization by President Volodymyr Zelensky. It has now been confirmed that it is Esports Arena.
Who did it?
The identity of the mystery buyer was revealed on social media when the following message appeared on Facebook, posted by Oleksandr Kokhanovsky:
“The victory in the auction for Dnipro hotel was won not by Russian oligarchs, but by Ukrainian IT specialists. We will turn it into the first hotel in the world fully prepared for esports events. It will include not only the attributes of a top hotel (restaurants, bars, SPA zones, and fitness centres) but also unique esports elements: training zones, an esports stage, special rooms for professional players, as well as the world’s best players’ lounge.”
Kokhanovsky, is the co-founder of multi-gaming esports organization Natus Vincere (NaVi), which is Latin for Born to Win. Founder of the DreamTeam gaming platform, Kokhanovsky indicated his desire to develop the esport industry in Ukraine and improve on legislation by attracting interest from the public and the media.

Revealing details about his plans, Kokhanovsky said:
“This is a whole ecosystem, which includes the creation of a modern multifunctional esports arena with all-Ukrainian and international tournaments, an esports academy, educational projects and an esports association uniting key market players who will develop the industry and help improve the legislative framework.”
The project that has a budget of $20,000,000 and an expected timeline of about 2 years will be a collaborative effort between investors and partners.
While the hotel will continue to offer services such as restaurants, bars, spa areas, and fitness centres, it will also feature everything a professional esports gamer needs. This will include training areas, VIP rooms for players and an esports stage to hold competitions.
Why Esports?
In a report published in April 2020, Newzoo, a leading provider of market intelligence covering the global games, esports, and mobile markets, anticipates that esports will overtake most forms of sports betting within the next 10 years, including soccer.
Due to the cancelling of live events because of the novel Coronavirus pandemic, many players have migrated to online versions of games for entertainment. Esports offers all the strategic prediction potential without any of the risks, especially when it comes to external factors like weather or player illness.
Commenting on his passion for esports, Kokhanovsky said:
"I've been representing Ukraine in the esports world for all my life. This is a huge global market with great opportunities for our country's economy. So it's time to present Ukraine to this world."
Ultimately, Kokhanovsky plans for the renovated Dnipro Hotel to be part of a project to consolidate Ukraine in the international esports market.
