The sport’s biggest and most high-profile names are now beginning to get back in the mix and build towards bigger and better things in the coming months.
With the more prestigious networks now announcing their schedules and the top superstars preparing to enter the ring once more, there’s plenty for fans to look forward to.
So, here are five fights to look forward to in 2020, with many mouth-watering match-ups set to take place during the second-half of the calendar year.
Joe Smith Jr vs. Eleider Alvarez (August 22nd)
After a previous postponement, light-heavyweight punchers Joe Smith Jr and Eleider Alvarez are finally rescheduled to collide on August 22nd.
In Las Vegas the two men will collide in a WBO light-heavyweight title eliminator, having had their initial July date suspended when Alvarez picked up an untimely shoulder injury.
It’s a huge battle at 175 pounds, with a shot at Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s former WBO strap up for grabs here in Sin City.
Jorge Linares vs. Javier Fortuna (August 28th)
Fan favourite Jorge Linares is always an exciting fighter to watch and this will likely be another must-see in California come August 28th.
Stylish Venezuelan champion Linares has his sights set on a showdown with much-hyped prospect Ryan Garcia.
The two fighters have been going at each other on social media and a win for Linares here could potentially set up that clash further down the line. But he can’t afford any slip-ups against Javier Fortuna first.
Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. (September 12th)
The biggest fight of 2020 that no one seen coming. Legendary world champions Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. will officially meet in a an eight-round ‘exhibition’ clash this coming September 12th.
Former undisputed heavyweight champion ‘Iron Mike’ has been teasing his comeback for some time but officially announced it to send the boxing world into a frenzy.
Both men are over the age of 50 but that is unlikely of stopping legions of fans tuning in to this shock pay-per-view meeting.
Gervonta Davis vs. Leo Santa Cruz (October 24th)
One of the most intriguing bouts of the year. Gervonta Davis will go toe-to-toe with Mexican Leo Santa Cruz on American soil on October 24th.
In a Showtime Boxing PPV, ‘Tank’ will be aiming to cement his status as a rising star of the sport and continue his climb up the pound-for-pound rankings.
High stakes are on the line for both fighters in what is a highly interesting clash of styles in this Connecticut clash.
Errol Spence Jr. vs. Danny Garcia (November 21st)
Welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. will make his long-awaited return to the ring on November 21st, as he prepares to face off with former titlist Danny Garcia.
‘The Truth’ could well have taken an easier tune-up clash on his comeback from a horrific car crash which left him with worrying injuries.
But he is diving straight back in with a tough test and hopes to set up a potential blockbuster with fellow champion Terence Crawford at some stage across 2021.
