MGM Resort Employees Receive Support From Celebrity Entertainers
By Shane Addinall Apr 17, 2020 OpinionMGM Resorts list of headlining entertainers has long since drawn fans from far and wide. Recently these celebrities took centre stage by supporting the people who made their shows possible. From celebrities doing an astonishingly poor rendition of John Lennon's Imagine to their claims of understanding the struggles of being housebound – in their multi-million dollar mansions - it is fair to say that the entertainment industry has done little to endear itself to its normally adoring public of late.
However, a group of entertainers who have benefitted from the MGM Resorts for years have gone a long way to turning the tide on the idea that all the elites are “tone deaf” through one simple act – giving back to the people who supported them.
Mouth Meet Money
The MGM Resorts Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund was established to help the staff and families of MGM employees who have been furloughed or in extreme cases laid off. With an enterprise the size of MGM Resorts, this impacts the lives of tens of thousands of people.
When the need for support became clear a large number of entertainers who have walked the halls and stages of MGM resorts turned up again, not for fanfare but to help those who have been to integral to their success over the years.
Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts’ Acting CEO and President said:
“We are incredibly humbled by the support of our entertainment partners, who have come together to assist the people who, during normal times, are committed to creating incredible experiences for our guests from around the world.”
This list of entertainers includes David Copperfield, Jay Leno, Bill Maher, David Spade, Boyz II Men, Carrot Top, Ray Romano, Shin Lim, and Thunder from Down Under, who all donated from their personal funds to the Relief Fund.
Hornbuckle went to state that between the MGM Resort management team and these entertainer donations the fund has managed to secure in excess of $11 million which will all go to helping their employees and their families.
MGM Meeting Needs
This Relief Fund is not a knee jerk reaction from MGM Resorts leadership to tackle a short term problem. The MGM Resorts Foundation has been in operation since 2002 and has raised nearly $100 million to date in support of more than 1500 charities.
Even amidst the closure of their properties over the last 30 days they still met their commitments to feeding families by donating more than 450,000 meals through their Feeding Forward initiative.
