This isn't a usual slot with reels and paylines. Instead, the game features a grid of 7x7 and wins are paid in clusters of at least five of the same symbol. Talking of the symbols, they're represented by Viking runes and other familiar pictures, such as Thor's hammer, the tree of life, and totems of different animals.

Situated right in the center of the grid are the eight locked tiles and the main goal of Thor's Lightning is unlocking these tiles by creating adjacent wins and triggering one of two bonus features.

Valhalla or Muspellheim?

Landing winning combinations around the central formation will gradually remove the tiles. After every win, symbols are removed from the grid and replaced with new ones, so a nice streak of wins can break all the tiles, which leads to unlocking one of two bonus features.

Muspell spins feature only high paying symbols as well as the Lava feature. Lava can remove a certain type of symbol from the grid or add a new one, including wilds.

Valhalla free spins feature only Golden Shield symbols hiding valuable cash prizes. Once the feature ends, all shields landing on the reels will turn over to reveal their values, which will all be added together.

There are also two random features that can activate at any time. The Lightning feature will have Thor firing away a lightning, removing all low-paying symbols or turning all instances of a particular symbol into wilds. The Hammer feature will either remove symbols from the grid or nudge rows and reels to create winning combinations.
