The Gaming Board for the Bahamas is an organization with a long history. It was initially established in 1969 with the main goal of ensuring a safe and properly regulated land-based gambling environment. Keeping up with the times and taking on new roles, the organization’s reach has also expanded to online casinos and other iGaming operators.
Online casinos licensed by the Gaming Board of Bahamas have to adhere to very strict regulations set forth in the gaming laws and overseen by the Board. Those casinos wanting to receive a license need to prove they meet the said criteria and pay the required fee as prescribed by the law.
The Gaming Board for the Bahamas came to be in 1969 after the passage of the 1969 Lotteries and Gaming Act. Since the establishment, the organization has been in charge of making sure licensed venues were conducting business in accordance with their licenses and good business practices.
Gaming laws have changed from time to time over the years and the Gaming Board of the Bahamas kept up with these changes. In 2014, a new gaming legislation was passed through the Gaming Act and a couple of other acts addressing important changes in the gaming industry. New laws reconfirmed the position of the Board and expanded its jurisdiction to online casinos or “web shops” as they were colloquially known in the country.
At the moment, there aren’t very many casinos with the license from the Gaming Board for the Bahamas. Since this is a local license, foreign operators aren’t as interested in acquiring it. However, there are several local operators licensed by the Gaming Board for the Bahamas providing players a chance to play in a safe, regulated, and completely legal environment.
