Hard Rock Plans Outrageous Guitar-Shaped Las Vegas Hotel
By Shane Addinall Dec 16, 2021 EntertainmentWhile fans of The Mirage might bemoan the loss of the beloved Las Vegas destination the plans that the Hard Rock unveiled for the location will have music and casino fans lining up to rock around the clock.Love it or hate it the one thing that is undeniable is that Las Vegas knows how to put on a show that attracts headlines. This is not only true of its actual shows which include world-famous performances by the likes of Celine Dion, Penn and Teller, and the Blue Man Group but also its iconic skyline.
One thing that Vegas showmen know to be a fact is that in order to keep drawing the crowds you need to shake things up, give them something new to come and see, even if this means tearing down something beloved in the process.
Out With The Old
In a landmark deal the Hard Rock International (HRI) announced to the world that it had closed a more than $1 billion deal with MGM Resorts to purchase the Strips original mega-resort, The Mirage Hotel.
Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International said:
“We are honoured to welcome The Mirage’s 3,500 team members to the Hard Rock family.”
The seminal Polynesian-themed gambling destination has been drawing crowds to Las Vegas for more than 30 years, having opened its doors on November 22nd, 1989. Known for its kitsch décor and eye-catching artificial “active” volcano The Mirage Hotel has been at the centre of Vegas life for decades.
What is even more surprising than the sale itself is what fate awaits this bastion of old school Vegas charm. No sooner was the paperwork filed than HRI announced their intent to tear it down and replace it with a new hotel that resonates more with the Hardrock brand.
And In With The New
Since the first Hard Rock Café was launched in 1971 the brand has been synonymous with rock and roll, covering each of its destination locations in genre-appropriate memorabilia and trinkets.
In keeping with this theme, HRI intends to replace the classic Mirage Hotel and its faux-volcano with a gorgeous guitar-shaped hotel that it believes will become one of the most sought after gambling and entertainment destinations Las Vegas has ever seen.
Allen commented on the planned hotel saying:
“When complete, Hard Rock Las Vegas will be a fully integrated resort welcoming meetings, groups, tourists and casino guests from around the world to its nearly 80-acre centre-Strip location.”
HRI is not taking an uncalculated risk by investing well over $1 billion to bring this vision to life. The Vegas-based guitar-shaped hotel will be the second in the group's history, with the concept having been tested at their Hard Rock resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Not only has this venue been well received by guests, created a stunning visual display (especially at night) but also took home the coveted Property of the Year award at the Global Gaming Awards.
