Gambling and Casino-Related Tattoos Can Be a Really Bad Idea
By Shane Addinall Sep 27, 2018 OpinionTattoos can be a lot of fun and can help you express your individuality but they can also have terrible consequences. Body art is an exciting and dangerous permanent expression, but are casino and gambling-related tattoos a good idea? Probably not.The art of tattooing has been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and it's only gotten better and better.
While most tattoos and tattoo artists have progressed in leaps and bounds, there are still many bad decisions made by people around the world every day.
Unfortunately, not all tattoos are beautiful to look at and can be appreciated by all, some are really not a good idea at all.
The Case of Karolyne Smith and Golden Palace Casino
At first glance, Karolyne Smith from Salt Lake City, Utah looks just like any typical soccer mom. Blonde, young and seemingly normal in every way, this mom made a drastic sale in 2005 that took the online casino industry by storm.
In a desperate attempt to raise funds and earn as much cash as possible, Smith set up an eBay auction in 2005 where she put her own forehead up as advertising space. The auction meant that the company with the highest bid (or the first purchase of $10,000) would have her forehead as advertising space and their logo would forever be emblazoned on her face.
A bold move that you may think was only for the sake of publicity, Smith was soon met with a buyer.
Golden Palace Casino jumped on the opportunity to claim the advertising spot of a lifetime by selecting to purchase the forehead space for the total of $10,000!
In a seemingly insane move, Smith followed through and had the casino's logo tattooed on her forehead, earning her the nickname 'Forehead Goldie'. She also earned her spot in the spotlight and after the money ran out, Golden Palace Casino provided Smith with the cash to have her tattoo removed in 2012.
Not All Casino Tattoos Are Terrible
While Golden Palace Casino's publicity stunt may have resulted in a number of people also tattooing their body's with the casino's logo, not all tattoos have to be awful.
In the tattoo culture, there is an entire subsection of body art dedicated to gambling-related tattoos and most of them are simply beautiful.
Whether inspired by scenes from films, flaming aces, lucky dice, or poker chips with stacks of cash, there are many great additions to the casino-related tattoo sub-genre.
Many casino lovers show their appreciation for Las Vegas by featuring the city in their tattoos. If done well, by a professional, and without the need to make a quick buck, casino and gambling-related tattoos can be a great addition to any body art canvas! Just be sure to have it done as it should be and try to stay away from tattooing casino logos on your face.
