European Blackjack
Overview
European Blackjack is an almost identical version of the classic game played and hundreds of online casinos. It follows the same basic structure, uses up to eight decks of cards and players have the goal of coming as close to 21 as possible. Cards from 2 to 10 have their face value, aces count for 1 and 11 while face cards have the value of 10 points each.
Players gets two cards, the same goes for the dealer and if any of the participants makes 21 with an Ace and a card valued at 10 points, this is called blackjack.
Players can ask for as many cards as they likes while making sure the total doesn’t exceed 21. Going bust is a surefire way of losing the hand regardless of what hand the dealers has.
Special Rules when Playing European Blackjack
At European blackjack online casinos players can also choose to double down by doubling the original bet. When players are dealt identical cards they have the option of splitting them and use the newly formed hands from that point onward. If players get a bad starting hand they can also surrender, which means that half of the stakes are reimbursed. Insurance is sometimes offered by online casinos, and it pays out at 2:1 but the house edge is high and this kind of bets should be avoided.
Players can win even money if the dealer has a lower total or if he goes bust. The best case scenario is to make blackjack which pays 3 to 2 unless the dealer also has an identical hand. There are several differences between European blackjack and the standard game available at online casinos. For example, the dealer can’t check for blackjack assuming the first card is a 10 value card or an Ace.
