Classic Bingo
Overview
Bingo is a game that is now shared by the world after originating in 16th century Italy. The game was then introduced in France and other parts of Europe, including England, by the 18th century. Bingo then enjoyed a steep rise in popularity in 1920s England before taking off in the US from 1929 with a higher tempo version.
UK Bingo
In the UK, 90 ball is the dominant version of bingo. A round of 90 ball bingo will present players with a grid of numbers that are displayed on nine columns and three rows. The player will have five numbers displayed on each row with the aim being to cross them off when pulled from the ball machine by the bingo caller.
As the game progresses, players can try to win prizes by being the first to complete one line of numbers and then two lines of numbers. However, the largest prize is typically reserved for the player who wins the full house by becoming the first to cross all of the numbers on their card for that particular round of bingo. While 90 balls appear in the machine, the game ends because of a full house.
US Bingo
With gambling restricted in some US states, bingo enjoys almost universal acceptance, based on the fact that it can be played to generate charitable revenue. In a standard game of 75 ball bingo, the bingo card for the round will have a grid of five rows and five columns. While there are spaces for 25 numbers, the middle is typically blank.
In 75 ball, there is a fast pace and the rules can sometimes allow for players to win from up to five lines of numbers being completed. When playing online bingo, the 75 ball version can also incorporate numbers that are displayed in a pattern on the ticket. Ultimately, it depends on the creativity of the online bingo site.
