Calvin Ayre Pivots from Gambling to Bitcoin SV with Surprise Announcement
By Shane Addinall Feb 24, 2021 IndustryThe personality behind the infamous Bodog brand and outspoken supporter of "the real'' Satoshi Nakamoto, Calvin Ayre, announced today that he is stepping away from online gambling with immediate effect and going all-in on Bitcoin SV.In a surprise move by billionaire gambling playboy turned cryptocurrency evangelist, Calvin Ayre announced today that his primary gambling industry news site would be exiting the online gambling space in favour of Bitcoin SV (BSV).
While the announcement came as a surprise to the online gambling community the writing has been on the wall given Ayre’s outspoken support of Craig Wright in his bid to be recognised as Satoshi Nakamoto and the 2017 launch of the Bitcoin news, education, and conference site CoinGeek.
A Dramatic Farewell
Visitors to CalvinAyre were greeted this morning with blue splash screen displaying a Dear John letter by the website owner outlining his new vision for his empire, particularly his all-in mindset regarding BSV.
“BSV isn’t just a frictionless payments solution; its unparalleled scaling capacity offers heretofore unthinkable possibilities for data management. BSV also heralds the arrival of the Metanet, Dr. Wright’s concept for a protocol that merges data and content for tracking, monetization and ownership in a peer-to-peer system.”
Ayre also refers to the BSV as the only cryptocurrency that “remains true to the vision Satoshi outlined in his famous white paper”. Ayre claims that in the same way that he worked to revolutionise the online gambling news and reporting industry by not kowtowing to the “established giants of the day”, he intends create transparency in the cryptocurrency arena.
That is not to say that he is blind to the value of more than a decade worth of news coverage and industry information his site has accumulated, noting that all iGaming content will remain online for interested readers, but no additional news will be added as of today.
Why Bitcoin SV?
Futurists have been fascinated by Bitcoin long before it made headlines thanks to its outrageous value proposition. Back then it was the disruptive nature of the technology and its untapped potential that had techies and visionaries alike frothing at the mouth.
In addition to the very personal connection Ayre has with BSV thanks to his friendship with the digital currency’s creator Craig Wright, he claims to truly be a true believer in its potential to cross the floor from investment vehicle to world-changing daily transactional instrument.
He is not alone in this belief as even a perfunctory look into Bitcoin SV will yield a treasure trove of articles and industry reviews singing the praises of the coin in terms of the advances it has made in transactional yield.
Bitcoin is limited to a 1Mb block size which equates to the ability to process a maximum of 7 transactions per second. At present BSV can process up to 65 transactions per second with its creators looking to expand that value exponentially over the next few years.
Not one to play it safe the team behind BSV claim that it has the potential to “replace every payment system in the world with a better user experience, a cheaper merchant cost, and a safer level of security”.
Geeking Out Over Crypto
While reporting on gambling news is no longer in Ayre’s wheelhouse he has not stepped away from the industry completely. In addition to CoinGeek covering all things cryptocurrency, the website will continue to include information on the synergy between decentralised currencies and online gambling.
One of the prime examples of this is the fact that online gambling darling, Rebecca (Becky) Liggero Fontana, has moved over to CoinGeek with the directive of focusing on the intersection of Bitcoin SV (BSV) and the gaming industry.
She will continue to delve into Bitcoin and highlight the opportunities, challenges and breaking news surrounding two of the world’s most cutting edge verticals. We can all look forward to more of the insightful interviews and challenging conversations that have become Becky's signature during her years as an industry reporter.
