GamCare Awards Coveted Advanced Safer Gambling Standard
By Shane Addinall May 14, 2022 IndustryUsing stringent protocols and the available tools, operators have the power to make gambling safer for all. GamCare awards those who meet the challenge and endeavour to make their global reach count. The British national gambling support charity, GamCare, bestowed a high honour on the UK-based gambling company, Entain. Following a rigorous assessment, Entain now holds the title of delivering Advanced Safer Gambling Standards. Recipients of the prestigious title practise the highest standards when safeguarding players from gambling harm.
GamCare elaborates on the standards by explaining that their Safer Gambling Standards are independent qualities, separate from the duties required by licensing regimes. Devoted to a safer gambling landscape, the charity applauds the operator for their efforts in the matter.
Entain is the largest operator to receive GamCare’s highest standards award for their online activities in the UK.
No Easy Feat
GamCare evaluates critical business processes before grading on safety standards. The assessment criteria for Advanced Level 3 accreditation given to Entain comprised 10 different areas, where they conducted up to 58 separate checks. It covered areas like the group’s safer gambling strategy, policies, procedures and controls. GamCare interviewed employees, conducted on-site visits, and reviewed the company’s websites.
The findings recognised excellence in the company’s approach and execution, and they awarded Entain with the highest level of standards – Advanced Level 3 – for their online activities and Advanced Level 2 for their land-based business.
Commenting on the achievement, Robert Hoskin from Entain said:
“We are proud to be recognised by GamCare and its Safer Gambling Standard in this critically important area of responsible betting and gaming, and in particular with their highest accreditation.”
As Chief Governance Officer at Entain, Hoskin affirmed the company’s dedication to sustainable practices in responsible gambling approaches.
Leaders in the Industry
With their hands-on approach to educating the industry on gambling harm, GamCare leads the sector through relevant research, education programs, and support structures for those affected by compulsive gambling.
Head of Industry Standards at GamCare, Dan Whitlam, commented on the award, saying:
“We are encouraged to see Entain achieve the Advanced level of the Safer Gambling Standard for its online and land-based activities, meaning they have adopted a wide range of safer gambling measures that go beyond the social responsibility provisions of their gambling licence.”
Through its award-winning ‘Changing for the Bettor’ responsible gambling strategy, Entain seeks to accomplish and maintain sustainable practices and protect its players. An approach that could transform the industry.
Last year, the company launched its Advanced Responsibility and Care programme, utilising AI and presenting tailored, real-time interaction with players.
During trials in the UK, results were promising, with 80% accuracy in risk assessments and a 120% increase in using safer gambling tools by those most at risk.
Safer for All
This award testifies to gambling companies taking accountability for improving the industry without hesitation or waiting for others to take the lead.
GamCare’s training programmes, which empower professionals in gambling support, paired with operators who care, will minimise gambling harm in the long run. We can only hope that more stakeholders step up to the challenge, with so much on the line.
