By Shane Addinall Jul 03, 2022 Industry: The UK-based iGaming provider supports non-gambling events and sponsors a worthy cause to bring the healing power of laughter to sick children.Leading content provider, Pragmatic Play announced its investment in Steve Sammut Nurminem’s valiant goal of raising money for the Maltese charity organisation, Dr Klown. Nurminem sets out to conquer a 365km ultramarathon around the Italian island of Sicily.
The partnership between Pragmatic Play and Steve is part of the iGaming provider’s continuous investment in social responsibility initiatives. Steve is the first person to attempt the staggering 365km run around Sicily and hopes to raise funds for the NGO, Dr Klown, at the same time.
Supporting a Good Cause
On 28 June, Pragmatic Play confirmed its involvement in the charity event to help put smiles on sick children’s faces. By partnering with Steve Sammut Nurminem, also known as MovewithSteve, the software provider helps create awareness for the Maltese NGO, Dr Klown. Steve’s goal is to cover the terrain of the Sicilian Island and raise €10,000 within 60 hours.
Pragmatic Play supports the athlete on his journey of this incredible challenge and writes that the partnership is natural because of shared ethos and dedication to greater causes. Julian Jarvis, Pragmatic Play’s CEO, said:
“Steve is well known in the Maltese community for his herculean feats of endurance running, and we’re very proud to be able to support him in his latest astounding effort– running a 365 km ultramarathon!”
The UK-based gambling content provider sponsored the upcoming ultramarathon of 365km to support Steve and his excellent team of professionals. While the Mediterranean is at the height of its summer, Steve must cover the distance around the island and plans to run from Syracuse to Trapani.
Support for Some Clowning Around
Steve Nurminem is a motivational athlete in the Maltese community, and his plan to raise funds for Dr Klown is months in the making. A stringent training schedule gets his mind and body in shape to cover the challenging areas of Sicily as the 365km trail includes a total altitude climb of 4,500m. Steve aims to complete the ultramarathon in less than two and a half days.
The non-government organisation (NGO) is a unique charity organisation that works at children’s hospitals in Malta and Gozo. Since 2010, Dr Klown has lifted the spirits of ill children through laughter. Jarvis said:
“The work that Dr Klown does in Malta is extremely important, and we’re humbled we can support Steve in his quest to raise as much money for them as possible.”
Clown doctors from the organisation are artistically and psychologically trained to entertain children in hospitals. Like the Hollywood movie Patch Adams, Dr Klown helps children through scary and confusing times with humour.
Steve comments on the ultramarathon scheduled for 22 July, saying:
“It is a hugely exciting challenge and one that will push me to the limit as I embark on my most ambitious run to date, looking to raise significant funds for Dr Klown to assist the incredible work they do.”
Through his hard work and dedication, Steve and the partnerships he secured hope to bring healing smiles to more children in Malta.
