William Hill Leadership Team Put People Before Personal Gain
By Shane Addinall Apr 16, 2020 Industry“People before profits” should be the watchword of any well-run and well-led company. William Hill is one of a growing number of iGaming companies to walk the walk in this regard in 2020.To say that 2020 has been challenging year so far is an understatement however what has been fantastic to see is the calibre of people the iGaming industry has at its helm. This time it was the senior and executive leadership team of William Hill Plc who has chosen to put the wellbeing of their staff above personal gain.
No “I” In Team
The bookmaker has confirmed that all in the interim all staff who have been furloughed will continue to receive their full pay. This provided a great sense of relief in a time when unpaid leave and layoffs have been rampant in other sectors.
They have also stated that salary increases for non-executive staff will be honoured, in line with national minimum wage adjustment guidelines. Once again this helps those hit hardest by volatile market conditions weather this current storm.
Money Better Spent
In order to fund many of these financial security measures for their staff the executive management team of William Hill, led by Ulrik Bengtsson Group Chief Executive, have elected to forgo salary increases and bonuses for 2020.
“Ulrik Bengtsson has decided that he should not accept the 2020 Performance Share Plan award made to him on 9 March 2020, and that award will, accordingly, lapse. No other 2020 PSP awards will be made to senior executives at William Hill, including our new CFO, Matt Ashley”
This is a laudable move by William Hill’s executive team, and we wish them and their staff all the best for the time ahead.
