The leading music corporation teamed up with the Dakia U-Ventures investment group to launch a flagship project by the name UMUSIC hotels, which will be a mint-fresh global collection of experiential hotel properties based on music.
The coastal Mississippi city will be one of the first three locations where UMG will debut its new line of UMUSIC hotels and according the press statement released by the music production giant, projects of a similar capacity plan to be unveiled in Orlando, Florida, and Atlanta Georgia. This will be the first time a global music corporation will be directly involved in the casino industry to introduce a new kind of experience to the gambling scene and hospitality industry at large. It is however important to note that Biloxi is the only location where casino operations are allowed.
Using Music to Rekindle the Rich Cultural Spirit of the City
Biloxi’s property will boast of an enormous performance upon completion and it is also expected to have nearly 1,000 rooms. The duo, UMG and Dakia U-Venture, have joined forces with the Pyramid Hotel Group which will be in charge of running the hotels in their US based UMUSIC operations. This highly anticipated project is planned to revolve around the unique elements of the rich music that hails from each of the cities where the properties will be situated.
Robert Lavia, the Dakia U-Ventures LLC chair released a press statement to express his enthusiasm for the new partnership with UMG saying;
Quote“Every destination holds a great story just waiting to be told through its cultural heritage and its music. Through this new concept, we will both help people discover new ways to channel their love for music and the arts and help empower the transformation of communities worldwide through cultural, inspirational, creative and conscious collaboration. And we’re thrilled to work together with Universal Music Group who shares our vision and passion about the powerful role of culture and music for each community we touch.”
Back in June, the Biloxi City Council okayed a tourism tax incentive to revamp a property covering 266 acres. According to the city resolution, this property initially hosted the Broadwater Beach Hotel, marina and golf course. The once glorious resort was built nearly a century ago in 1929 but ended up going bankrupt in 2002, and closing after over 7 decades in 2005, right before Hurricane Katrina came to sweep off what remained of the historic resort.
The new project is expected to employ over 2,500 people, and the Mississippi State governor, Tate Reeves, believes that the UMUSIC hotels and casino property will boost the growth of the Magnolia State’s economy. Part of the governor’s statement about the UMG venture read;
Quote“We are excited to welcome this new property to Mississippi! The gaming industry has provided countless opportunities for good work in our state, and brought in a tremendous amount of revenue. It attracts visitors from all over the globe. Universal Music Group is a natural fit, considering the rich musical legacy of Mississippi and Biloxi in particular. This will be a great partnership that will provide a lot of fun and economic growth for the people of Mississippi.”
