Tired of Roulette? It's time to try your luck at a new casino game. Here is your complete guide on how to play Sic Bo along with pro tips and tricks.
While gambling is highly illegal in China today, the nation has certainly done its part for the global gambling industry in the past.
Before the Chinese communist party outlawed casino games in the 1960s, the nation had a rich history of betting and creating games that were conducive to a little gambling fun. One of the games that China introduced to the world is Sic Bo, which is a beloved game that's now played by gamblers worldwide.
Today, we're going to talk about the history of this game as well as some of the rules for how to play Sic Bo. Read on to get started with a fun and unique dice game that you may never have played before!
A Little About Sic Bo
Sic Bo is an ancient Chinese casino game with a name that literally translates to 'precious dice.' Some people also refer to it as 'dai shou' or 'dai sai,' both of which mean 'big [or] small.'
This casino game stems back centuries. However, it was just recently introduced into America by Chinese immigrants in the early 20th century. It can be played now in most American casinos as well as many in the UK. It also has developed variants of English origin that you likely have heard of before- Grand Hazard is one of the most popular variants, but chuck-a-luck is pretty commonly played, too.
Craps is another game that Sic Bo is commonly compared to. While they really are nothing alike, people often make this association because they're the only two casino games involving dice. However, while there are strategies that people who play craps can employ to win, Sic Bo has long been hailed as the ultimate game of chance. Every roll of the dice results in a win or a loss, so winning in Sic Bo really is 100% luck!
How to Play the Game
Now that you know some facts about Sic Bo and understand its significance to the global gambling industry, it's time to learn the rules and how to play. Read on to be ready with one of the most fun and exciting casino games out there today!
The Basic Rules
Before you can learn the rules of Sic Bo, it's important that you understand the table that you're playing on. In comparison to a poker, roulette, or craps table, it looks complicated... overwhelmingly so. However, it's really not as scary as it looks. The only reason that there are so many areas on the table is that each is a section that a player can place bets on.
The player will select the part of the table that they want to place bets on. After that, the game's dealer will pick up a small box that contains the three dice needed for gameplay. After the players see that the dice are a) there and b) not rigged, the dealer will close the chest and shake it up. After that, the box will be opened and the dice combination revealed.
If the combination corresponds to your bet, you win! If not, then there will be plenty of opportunities to try again.
Because the dealer is the one who shakes and displays the dice, there are no opportunities for the player to learn dice-throwing skills to try and give themselves a higher chance of winning. There are also no real strategies that you can employ to make yourself better at Sic Bo. This may sound grim, but it isn't- it simply provides you with a game that's entirely dependant on luck!
Betting Options
As you may have gathered above, there's really only one choice that you need to make when playing Sic Bo. This decision is the betting option that you decide to wager on.
Here are the main options that you have to work with:
- Big. The total sum of the dice will be between 11 and 17 with the exception of the dice coming out three-of-a-kind.
- Small. The total sum of the dice will be between 4 and 10 with the exception of the dice coming out three-of-a-kind.
- Odd. The total sum of the dice will be any odd number with the exception of the dice coming out three-of-a-kind.
- Even. The total sum of the dice will be any even number with the exception of the dice coming out three-of-a-kind.
- Specific Triples. A specific number will appear on all three dice as a three-of-a-kind.
- Any Triple. Any unspecified number will appear on all three dice as a three-of-a-kind.
- Specific Doubles. A specific number will appear on 2/3 dice to create a pair.
-
Dice Combinations. A certain combination of numbers will appear on two or three different die.
- There are variations of this bet based on how many die you think that the number will appear on.
- Single Dice Bet. A certain number will appear on at least one dice.
The two most commonly selected options are 'big' and 'small.'
Also, as we discussed earlier, each of these betting options corresponds to a section on the Sic Bo table!
